A word from the President of the Board, Rick Witton
“Sue and I thoroughly researched and visited the mountain communities of Western North Carolina and Virginia before our first visit to Mountain Air. What we found during that visit was a thriving community committed to a family environment. Its natural beauty, widely varied amenities, and the integration of quality structures with the environment made us realize that this was a special place. But, as we looked at real estate on the mountain, it was not until we discovered Heritage Ridge Villas with their huge, unobstructed long-range views and the friendliness of their residents that we knew that we had found our new home. For the past 14 years we, along with our family and friends who have come to visit, have enjoyed every minute that we have spent in these spectacular surroundings.
“The Heritage Ridge Villas are conveniently located halfway between the entry gate and the top of the mountain making it easy to run to Asheville and nearby mountain communities, or access all of the facilities and events at the top of the mountain in and around Slickrock Village.
“Not only are the residents of the Heritage Ridge Villas individually committed to their community, but there is also a dedicated Association Board comprised of some of those residents who execute an active risk management program and maintain a strong financial foundation for the Heritage Ridge Villas to preserve the beauty and safety for all.
“We invite you to come for a visit and feel that you too will discover why we feel that the Heritage Ridge Villas are for these and so many other reasons a once in a lifetime place to live.”
Each of the 20 Heritage Ridge villas has the feel of a home because there are windows on three sides and a lovely spacious floor plan. Their high elevation at 4,000 ft. brings not only dramatic long-range views but also lower temperatures not available at lower elevations. They are the only condominium community in Mountain Air located on a ridge, with long range views to the east, and some views to the west. The long history of having condominium board members who have been dedicated to top notch maintenance of the villas, as well as cost control, has resulted in maintenance fees remaining low for over 13 years. Even the buildings' crawlspaces are well maintained, and the minor wear and tear repairs are well addressed. There are good reserves and proper insurance coverage. The 20 Heritage Ridge villas have front and back porches, and a side screened porch with a fireplace. Five buildings contain the villas, each having two villas upstairs and two villas downstairs, all with private entrances. The villas are nestled in the woods, but with sweeping, open, long range views especially to the east toward the Black Mountains. The eastern view brings beautiful moonrises, as well as dramatic sunrises and sunsets. Some of the villas also have western views. The villas are pet friendly. The villas are tucked away in a quiet part of Mountain Air, with no nearby loud highways or traffic. The villas are built with native materials, including hardwood floors and indoor fireplaces built of rough fieldstone and sawn timbers, The upstairs villas have 2 bedrooms and the downstairs villas have 3 bedrooms. Our local park is Heritage Ridge Park, and there is access to all 6 neighborhood parks at Mountain Air As a part of the Mountain Air community, residents also have access to miles of onsite hiking trails, country mountain roads (all paved), and all of the other common land in the community. Heritage Ridge Park has sunrise and sunset overlooks, equipped with porch swings and chairs. Heritage Ridge is a great place to enjoy those magical days when the sun shines down upon the villas, but one can view the clouds covering the valleys and mountains below. Such moments are called "cloud inversions". On rare occasions, residents are even above rainbows!
The larger community of Mountain Air has several condominium associations and many single-family homes, as well as build-able lots. Some people live in the community year round, others stay for the summer and/or fall season, and others come and go throughout the year. Residents of the Heritage Ridge Villas have the option of joining Mountain Air Country Club which has fully built out facilities on the mountain, including amenities such as a fitness center, swimming pool, three restaurants, tennis courts, golf course, Nature and Outdoor Discovery Center, camps for children and teenagers, a movie theater, a private runway and a village center. Most club facilities are located on a prime spot at the top of the mountain with incredible long-range views. Fourth of July fireworks are available for all on the runway.
