The charming village of Burnsville is about an 8 minute drive from the Heritage Ridge Villas. The villas, which are close to the gate of Mountain Air, are 5 minutes from Highway 19, where Burnsville is located. Burnsville has a lovely town square, many galleries and art studios, a famous literary festival, a local library, rivers, mountains, hiking trails, quilt trails, a farmer's market, a playhouse, restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping. The Burnsville Towns Square has won the award as the state's top "Great Public Place". Lovely artist studios, from potters to glass artists to jewelers, weavers and painters, populate every nook and cranny of the county. The Toe River arts Council sponsors studio tours twice a year. Heritage Ridge Villas and Mountain Air North Carolina
The Heritage Ridge Villas are nestled in the woods between Heritage Ridge Park and the 18th hole. Heritage Ridge Park has sunset and sunrise lookouts, a charming shelter with a large stone fireplace, picnic tables, a grill, and uncovered seating and tables also. There are a variety of trees, rhododendron and shrubs, flowers, a play area, and the trailhead of a hiking trail to the famous Creekside Park. The 18th hole is the longest of the golf course holes, and perhaps the most photographed. The tee box is right outside the E building villas. The villas themselves all have long range views to the East, toward the Black Mountains and beyond. The villas are gifted with some of the most amazing moon-rises. Some villas have views also to the West. They are beautifully appointed and well located on the mountain. They are both close to the entry gate, and hence close to town, and close to Mountain Air's village and green. From the Heritage Ridge Villas, it is a 5 minute golf cart or car ride to the top of the mountain, where there are 3 restaurants, a spa and fitness center, a nature center, golf courses and putting greens, a mail room and business center, playhouses for children, and the 5 other parks and several hiking trails. For golfers, the first nine holes of golf, and the second nine, both start 5 minutes away. One important amenity is that the Heritage Ridge Villas allow and welcome pets of any size, even though they are condominiums. There are even "Yappy Hour" events and pet parades on the mountain and in Burnsville.
Mountain Air and the Heritage Ridge Villas are a year round community. Some residents live in Mountain Air year round, others come and go throughout the year, others come for short or long stays throughout all of the seasons. Residents of the Heritage Ridge Villas are also part of the larger Mountain Air Property Owners Association. The Property Owners Association maintains the well-paved roads year round, 6 parks in different neighborhoods around the mountain, a few miles of hiking trails, the entry gate, and flowers and landscaping all over the mountain. The moment it snows, the plows are out. The 3 mile drive to the 4 lane U.S. 19 is quick and always well maintained. Medical care includes doctors and a nearby hospital, and a helicopter pad close to the gate into Mountain Air, and helicopter landing access on the Mountain Air runway at the top of the mountain, for airlift to Mission Hospital in Asheville.
The Heritage Ridge Villa community is proud of its association, which takes care of all of the maintenance external to each villa. The association works hard continually to keep costs steady, and even recently reduced them. Because everything is maintained to a high standard, life in the Heritage Ridge Villas is relaxed and stress free. All of the amenities on the mountain are easily reached by car, golf cart, or walking (2 miles to the top of the mountain and the village, but 2 seconds to the local park, hiking trail, and the 18th hole).
Residents of the villas are members of the larger Mountain Air Property Owners Association, which includes all residents on the mountain. Heritage Ridge Villa Residents can enjoy condominium living, but have access to all of the common land in the entire community, including the 6 parks, Slick Rock Village, the roads, and the miles of hiking trails. A map of the hiking trails is available here. (Note that you can download these PDF maps of the hiking trails to your smart phones and have them with you while you hike.)
The monthly maintenance fees include not only maintenance of the villas (painting, re-roofing, building maintenance, landscaping and gardening, etc.) but also access to the miles of well-maintained and marked hiking trails, access to the 6 neighborhood parks, all stocked with fireplaces or fire circles, fire wood, picnic facilities, view points and look-outs, many with bathrooms, many with water features, such as trout ponds, water falls and streams, etc. There are also many lovely country roads to stroll. You can live in a condominium but have access to an entire mountain estate.
Heritage Ridge Villas residents feel like the community is a camp for both adults and children. The inspiring views and the richness of the natural world create a retreat environment, yet activities beckon whenever wanted. Fabulous fireworks are provided on the 4th of July.
Mountain Air Country Club is a private club which Heritage Ridge residents can join. Although membership in the Club is optional, it is well worth the access to the many club amenities. There are social and golf memberships. Amenities are too numerous to list in their entirety, but include 3 restaurants; a spa and fitness center; an 18 hole golf course; tennis and pickle ball courts; a private airstrip; a pool and hot tub; a cinema; a nature and outdoor discovery center; camp and activities for children and teens; fire pits and gathering places; a golf and clothing store; a gift store; support for informally organized activities, such as bridge, photography, hiking and sports car drives; book clubs; organic gardening; numerous festivals; a game room; and a built in sense of friendliness and community. Mountain Air Country Club has all facilities fully built out, was developed over 25 years ago, and is a member owned club with no debt. Mountain Air is one of the few communities where the club facilities are built on the top of the mountain, all with great views. Almost every home and condominium on the mountain also all have great views. Somehow, the mountain gives all residents this gift. The residents of the Heritage Ridge Villas all feel that their unique eastern views are very special, however. The Heritage Ridge Villas also are tucked away in a private and quiet part of the mountain, off of the main roads, yet close to the gate and larger community, close to the golf course, and close to Slickrock Village.
