Some of the sugar and red maple specimen trees around the Heritage Ridge Villas are going into full color.  Other trees are simply kissed by fall color at this point.  Overall the trees are mostly green with lovely pops of color starting.

Yoga On The Porch With Fall Cloud Inversions

Cloud inversions mean that we have sunshine in the sky but clouds below us.  One resident enjoys a moment of morning yoga above the clouds before a round of golf.  Because it is fall, the occasional morning cloud inversions of summer have become an almost daily gift.

Dramatic Fall Sunset

9/23/2016

The last two nights have brought dramatic fall sunset bounces in the East over the Black Mountains, part of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Residents on their back decks got to enjoy the following, with a view of Mt. Celo.  Overall the trees are all still green in early fall, with kisses of color here and there.  But the sky, oh my!  No color manipulation in this image.  Louise Lindsay

Right here in Burnsville, once a month, classic movies on the big screen on Monday night at 7 p.m.  What a treasure!

BLT Classic Movie Club Screening “To Kill A Mockingbird” Saturday September 19th At The Yancey Theatre.

“To Kill A Mockingbird” is a much loved and critically acclaimed 1962 classic film based on Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize winning autobiographical novel of the same name. The plot and characters are based loosley on the authors observation of her family and neighbors. The story is set in a small Alabama town in the 30's and focuses on honest, highly respected lawyer Atticus Finch magnificently played by Gregory Peck. The film is a portrayal of childhood innocence, racial prejudice, violence, moral tolerance and dignified courage. Included in the cast are Robert Duval, making his film debut as “Boo” Radley and two delightful child stars Mary Badham and Phillip Alford as Atticus Finch's two children “Scout and “Jem.” “To Kill A Mockingbird” is a great classic movie whos story is moving, passionate and told with great humor and tenderness. . Showtime is Monday September 19th 7:00pm at the Yancey Theatre. There are no ticket sales for these events but your donations are greatly appreciated. Great guided nature walk with Kat Dunham

Yesterday we enjoyed a wonderful guided nature walk with Kat (Mountain Air, 's resident naturalist) who showed us many things about mushrooms, blueberries, and trees, and took a group of maybe 12 or more Mountain Air residents to a lookout where we could see from Camps at Creekside up to the Club Villas and all around.  It was a free Sunday 10 AM guided nature hike.  We recommend these frequent guided nature walks to all.  She gave us the notes below.  And the 4" video gives you a glimpse of Kat's teachings.

Brian Gurl: Champagne and Ivories

9/2/2016

Last night, we enjoyed the wonderful "final" "Champagne and Ivories" concert by Brian Gurl, at his log-cabin home here in Burnsvile, NC.  He is moving to FL, but is willing to return next season for private in-home concerts (20 people or so).  So anyone who wants to set this up should contact him.   He simply needs someone with a piano, and a home to host a "Champagne and Ivories" concert.  Also, look for him to return possibly to the Burnsville Town Center next season.
